Jerusalem’s cuisine reflects the city’s nature as a melting pot for many communities at the meeting point of east and west – the old and the new, inspirational and innovative. A fusion of traditional Middle Eastern, North African and South American to exotic Asian flavours and continental European cuisine; from street food to fine dining, there aren’t many culinary channels that Jerusalem hasn’t explored and mastered. To celebrate Jerusalem’s dynamic and pioneering food movement, the city’s restaurants open their doors and welcome food lovers and visitors to come to explore their restaurants in November in the Jerusalem OpenRestaurants™. The festival offers a huge variety of gastronomic experiences, from the markets to the most elegant of restaurants, as well as special workshops, events and talks.
Find out moreWith over 100 unique culinary experiences combining food with art, culture, and innovation, the urban culinary festival OpenRestaurants™ will return to Jerusalem for the fourth year running from 19-23 November 2019. The many open kitchens, private tours, food talks, art and culture bring together the rich fusion of ethnicity that multicultural Jerusalem offers, showcased at some of the city’s most exciting and celebrated restaurants and landmarks

The Old City Tour – Within the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, humbly and modestly hides a culinary culture, unbeknownst to most that is particularly extensive and appetizing. This tour will reveal the food legends of the Old City, but not only. Starting with restaurants specializing in hummus peeking out from between souvenir shops and Middle Eastern juice stands and much more.
Falafel Tour – There is nothing more Israeli than Falafel. The golden falafel ball that long ago became the symbol, and sandwich, most associated with Israel — simple, tasty, flavorful, and nourishing for the body and the soul. Join us on a national mission to discover the best falafel in Jerusalem. We do not promise that you will find an unequivocal answer, but we do promise you that it will be abundant and delicious!
Traditional Deli Food Tour - What’s the difference between Kugel and Kiegel? How was Gefilte fish made in Europe and why did the ingredients change in Israel? How do you stuff Kreplach? And most important: Where can you find Tchulent during the week? In Jerusalem’s ultra orthodox neighborhoods Shabbat preparations begin already on Wednesdays for the Shabbat Queen. During the tour we will visit special food locations and try a variety of Eastern European style courses: Herring and pickles, Gefilte fish, Kugel, Tchulent and cheese filled blintzes, Krantz cake, Kamish cookies and Lekach cake.
